⁣Ludwig Leichhardt, (1813-1848), having been given up for dead, defied the odds and successfully made the journey from the Darling Downs in Qld to Port Essington (Arnhem Land, NT).⁣.⁣⁣.⁣On a later expedition, he was less fortunate, believed to have perished in the Simpson Desert while attempting to cross the continent from east to west.
